De La Concha is pleased to welcome cigar great Jesus Fuego for this September 22nd HC event. This very special tasting will take place from noon until 7:00pm.

Jesus Fuego and Xikar have joined forces to create a very special cigar series that has already proven itself by many repeat sales and a 92 rating in Cigar Aficionado in the current issue. The HC Series comes in three blends and we are confident that one or more of them will meet the needs of the cigar smoking community.

The HC Connecticut Shade uses a Connecticut Shade-Ecuador wrapper, a Sumatra binder and filler from Costa Rica, Mexico and Nicaragua. This mild-medium smoke is slightly stronger than the average Connecticut Shade cigar, but stays true to a Connecticut’s character.

On September 1, 2009, De La Concha will host a dinner featuring Avo Cigars with our special guest Avo Uvezian. Avo Uvezian was born in 1926 in Beirut to a talented musical family. Avo studied piano and composition at the renowned Julliard School of Music and during his time in the army, developed a love for cigars. After his army service, which ended in 1953, Avo played with some of the great jazz musicians of the 50’s and 60’s. This multilingual jazz musician and businessman moved to Puerto Rico, and in the early 1980’s he opened a restaurant and piano bar.

But he continued to search for the perfect cigar. In 1982 he traveled to the Dominican Republic in search of the finest tobaccos and the best factory for making his cigars. It was there that he met Hendrik Kelner and a partnership was born. In 1986 Avo and Hendrik produced 100,000 cigars. By 1988 the first Avo cigars were sold in New York. Today, three million cigars bearing the name of the jazz pianist are enjoyed by aficionados all over the world each year.

How do you pick cigars?

Posted by migrantblogger on June 23, 2009

I have no idea if anyone reads cigar reviews any more. I hope so; after all, I occasionally put reviews together for Luxist. But, I realize that there are other places where you can get the information you need, as well. Do you rely on your tobacconist? Recommendations from friends? Spread the news! Help us out.

BREAKING NEWS Zino Platinum Crown DAY EVENT!!!

It is always our pleasure to host a tasting event. It gives us an opportunity to showcase a cigar that should be tried and it gives you an opportunity to try a cigar that you might not have smoked before. It also gives you time to speak directly to the rep of the brand to learn more about the products offered by that company.

On Wednesday, April 22nd from noon until 7:00pm, we shall host such a tasting. On that day we will be showcasing the Zino Platinum Crown and Scepter cigars. These cigars, named for the founder of the Davidoff brand, are blends of Dominican and Peruvian tobaccos, which are aged for over four years. The tobaccos are then combined with a binder from Connecticut and finished with a Connecticut Ecuador wrapper. The result is a unique and dynamic taste. When you come to take advantage of this event, you can expect special deals to await you. We will also have a raffle and our lovely model will be on hand to answer questions and cut your cigars.
