Posted by migrantblogger on November 21, 2009
What are you doing Monday afternoon? Stop by De La Concha to meet three of the top names in the cigar business: Pepin Garcia, Nestor Miranda and Eddie Ortega. An opportunity like this doesn’t arise every day. And, while you’re in the store, pick up a box of any of the cigars made by Pepin, Nestor or Eddie — not only will you get 15 percent off, you’ll get five chances to win a trip for two to visit the new Pepin Garcia cigar factory in Nicaragua (all expenses paid).
There will be other specials running throughout the day as well. Buy three or more cigars from each of these industry masters, and you’ll get 10 percent off and one chance to win the Nicaragua trip. Stop by De La Concha between 3 PM and 7 PM to see what other surprises are in store and meet the men behind the cigars you’ve grown to love.
Not enough for you?

De La Concha Announces New Xikar Cigar Tasting
Posted by migrantblogger on September 20, 2009

De La Concha Smoking Lounge
De La Concha is pleased to welcome cigar great Jesus Fuego for this September 22nd HC event. This very special tasting will take place from noon until 7:00pm.
Jesus Fuego and Xikar have joined forces to create a very special cigar series that has already proven itself by many repeat sales and a 92 rating in Cigar Aficionado in the current issue. The HC Series comes in three blends and we are confident that one or more of them will meet the needs of the cigar smoking community.
The HC Connecticut Shade uses a Connecticut Shade-Ecuador wrapper, a Sumatra binder and filler from Costa Rica, Mexico and Nicaragua. This mild-medium smoke is slightly stronger than the average Connecticut Shade cigar, but stays true to a Connecticut’s character.

De La Concha Smoking Lounge
On September 1, 2009, De La Concha will host a dinner featuring Avo Cigars with our special guest Avo Uvezian. Avo Uvezian was born in 1926 in Beirut to a talented musical family. Avo studied piano and composition at the renowned Julliard School of Music and during his time in the army, developed a love for cigars. After his army service, which ended in 1953, Avo played with some of the great jazz musicians of the 50’s and 60’s. This multilingual jazz musician and businessman moved to Puerto Rico, and in the early 1980’s he opened a restaurant and piano bar.
But he continued to search for the perfect cigar. In 1982 he traveled to the Dominican Republic in search of the finest tobaccos and the best factory for making his cigars. It was there that he met Hendrik Kelner and a partnership was born. In 1986 Avo and Hendrik produced 100,000 cigars. By 1988 the first Avo cigars were sold in New York. Today, three million cigars bearing the name of the jazz pianist are enjoyed by aficionados all over the world each year.

How do you pick cigars?
Posted by migrantblogger on June 23, 2009
I have no idea if anyone reads cigar reviews any more. I hope so; after all, I occasionally put reviews together for Luxist. But, I realize that there are other places where you can get the information you need, as well. Do you rely on your tobacconist? Recommendations from friends? Spread the news! Help us out.
